The Saga Mine is a gold mine located in White Pine county, Nevada at an elevation of 6,972 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Description: The Bald Mountain district is located in an area of thinned crust along the eastern side of the Late Proterozoic rift that split the North American craton. It is also in the west-central portion of the Late Devonian-Early Mississippian Antler foreland basin, and near the eastern edge of deformation related to the late Paleozoic Humboldt orogeny To the west of the Bald Mountain district, geologic interpretations are dominated by recognition of Paleozoic deformation, whereas to the east, interpretations emphasize Mesozoic contraction and plutonism and Tertiary extension.

Comments
Comment (Commodity): Ore Materials: gold
Comment (Deposit): Saga has dominant trends of N405-0W that are about parallel to the Bida trend. The deposit is hosted in the Pilot Shale and is generally of lower grade than most other Bald Mountain deposits.
Comment (Development): When mined, the ore from the Bida and Saga deposits will be processed at the Mooney Basin facility along with ore from the Top deposit. In 2006, Barrick Gold Corp. acquired the Bida and Saga deposits through its acquisition of Placer Dome U. S., Inc.
Comment (Identification): The Saga deposit is encompassed by Placer Dome?s Mooney Basin mine area.
Comment (Location): The Saga deposit is located on the eastern flank of Little Bald Mountain. UTM is to the Saga 1 pit. The other Saga pits are within 200 meters of Saga 1.
Comment (Workings): several open pits
Comment (Economic Factors): No reserves reported as yet, but the deposit is included in Placer Dome?s current mine plan. When mined, ore from the Saga deposits will be processed at the Mooney Basin facility along with ore from the Top deposit.

Nevada Gold
Nevada has a total of 368 distinct gold districts. Of the of those, just 36 are major producers with production and/or reserves of over 1,000,000 ounces, 49 have production and/or reserves of over 100,000 ounces, with the rest having less than 100,000 ounces. Read more: Gold Districts of Nevada.
