Comments
Comment (Deposit): The mine was developed on vein deposits in silicic volcanic rocks.
Comment (Development): The mine was one of the original Bullfrog era underground mines discovered and mined in the early 1900s. A mill was erected on the property in 1907. Weekly shipments of 100 to 150 tons of high grade ore were being made in September 1907, but most mining had ceased by 1908. The mine was operated sporadically thereafter and in 1951 was owned by Mike Chulick of Winters, California. The property was explored by Columbus Mines Inc. of Reno in 1986, at which time Angst Inc. applied for 2 air quality permits for construction on the Gold Bar property with production slated for 1988. The mine produced from 1987 though 1991. When in operation during these years, it employed as many as 48 persons in the open pit, heap leach cyanidation process mine and mill.
Comment (Economic Factors): 1987 reserves were reported as 1.23 million tons of gold ore. The mine produced from 1987 through 1991, with an unknown amount of total production.
Comment (Identification): This record is an updated version of older record M231913 which could be deleted from the database
Comment (Location): The Gold Bar Mine is located about 2 miles NNW of Bullfrog Mountain.
Comment (Workings): Old workings consist of a 500 foot, 64 degree inclined shaft. The more recent mine was developed by an open pit in the 1980s-1990s.
Comment (Commodity): Ore Materials: auriferous pyrite, native gold
Comment (Commodity): Gangue Materials: gangue minerals: quartz, calcite
