Comment (Geology): Orebody description from "Temple Peak Deposit" , former record 10080834 (W032211 = 0560350043) citing an unpublished report for the GSW, Nov. 30, 1955 (see references).

Comment (Deposit): "Significant molybdenum occurrences in the Wind River Mountains are limited to the area centered around Schiestler Peak. The ore mineral, molybdenite (MoS2), occurs in a variety of rock types within the porphyritic quartz monzonite, and is found predominantly within a 4 km (2.5 mi) radius of Schiestler Peak, becoming more concentrated on Schiestler Peak proper. Mineralization is a localized phenomenon associated with late stage crystallizations of the porpyritic quartz monzonite pluton which is concentrated near the pluton's margin. Mineralization is similar in nature to many Precambrian pegmatite-aplite-quartz vein molybdenite deposits found in Canada." (Benedict, 1982, p. 83)

Comment (Deposit): "The main mineralization is limited to two small pods on Schiestler Peak (plate 2). These zones have been explored, but little if any ore was removed from the sites. The upper zone is the richest and has large grains and rosettes of molybdenite scattered thorughout the locality. This zone appears to be situated in a aplite {...]" (Benedict, 1982, p. 83-84).

Comment (Location): This deposit seems to be exposed as 4 veins, one each in secs. 30 an 31 in 32N R103W and secs. 24 and 25 T32N, R104W. (Hausel, 1997, Bull. 70, p. 187, fig. 76). Location is for largest disturbance visible on Google Earth and measured by GPS by T.Klein, USGS.

Comment (Deposit): Deposit type: disseminated, veinlets. This is a Precambrian vein-type deposit. Do not confuse with typical porphyry-Mo deposits.

Comment (Deposit): SEVERAL MOLYBDENITE VEINS AND DISSEMINATED ASSOCIATED WITH WEAK ALTERATION NEAR PRECAMBRIAN PLUTON BOUNDARY. (In spite of the word "porphyry", this is NOT a porphyry-type deposit)

Comment (Geology): Host rock: Precambrian biotite-granite porphyry. Or Precambrian quartz monzonite. Or related rocks. (See geologic map by Benedict, 1982)

Comment (Location): Terry Klein, by GPS, places this prospect at the northwestern of 2 prospects at 11,200 ft. on the Temple Peak topo map on the SW flank of Schiestler Peak.

Comment (Location): Section, Township, and Range information unverified. Not surveyed or mapped on the topo. Used GIS overlay (see Wilson and others, 2001, USGS OFR-2001-497)
