Comments

Comment (Production): "During the underground mine life from 1960 to 1963, approximately 99.8 kt (110,000 st) of ore was mined containing 544,311 kg (1.2 million lb) U3O8" (Ritchie, 1990, p. 1151) MS-94 credts this mine with total production of 7,170,586 short tons (6,505,046 mt).

Comment (Ownership): "In December, 1976,, Pathfinder Mines Corporation (knownw as Lucky Mc Uranium Corporation) was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Utah Internation Inc. [...]" (Ritchie, 1990)

Comment (Workings): Underground mine access was through a 12 ft diam. circular, concrete-lined, four-compartment vertical shaft 365 ft deep. The shaft was sunk in 1959. Development was by haulage drifts on the 6790 ft level at a dept of 324 ft, driven south and southwesternly along the trends of the 6780 ft and 6820 ft. roll front systems. (Ritchie, 1990, p. 1152) Operations converted to open-pit sometime after Nov. 1968 (Ritchie, 1990, p. 1154-1155). Mine was still active in 1983 when Ritchie wrote his paper for the 1990 volume (p. 1156)

Comment (Location): Corrected location from T27N to T28N as shown on pl. 7 (#2) in MINOBRAS, 1976. This location is for Utah Mines, which someone has coded as a synonym for this Shirley Basin mine. Verified location by comparing http://www.nrc.gov/info-finder/decommissioning/uranium/is-pathfinder-shirley-basin.pdf fig. 2 to current (2011) satellite imagery in ARC GIS.
