Comments
Comment (Location): ALONG LA PLATA RIVER AND PARROTT CREEK BELOW MAYDAY TO VICINITY OF HESPERUS. EXACT SITE OF OLD OPERATIONS UNKNOWN. ELEV AND LAT-LONG GIVEN ARE FOR COMMON SECTION CORNER OF SECS. 03 04 09 AND 10, T35N, R11W. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1974
Comment (Deposit): PLACER AU DERIVED FROM ERODED PORTIONS OF EXPOSED VEINS IN HEADWATERS OF RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES. PLACERS IN AREA GENERALLY WERE OF LOW GRADE BECAUSE (1) MUCH PRIMARY AU IS TELLURIDE, RELATIVELY LIGHT, EASILY BROKEN DOWN INTO FINE PARTICLES, (2) CHEMICAL WEATHERING PRODUCES "MUSTARD" AU THAT CAN BE CARRIED GREATER DISTANCES, (3) ERRATIC CONCENTRATIONS IN SMALL POCKETS IN WIDE VALLEYS SCOURED BY GLACIATION. THIS PLACER DIFFERS FROM OTHERS IN DISTRICT IN THAT IT OCCURS IN GLACIAL OUTWASH GRAVELS IN PROMINENT BENCHES OR TERRACES ALONG LA PLATA RIVER AND PARROTT CREEK IN WIDER PORTIONS OF RIVER VALLEY BELOW MAYDAY AND EXTENDING TO HESPERUS.
