Mine Description

The Midnight mine is about 2.5 miles northwest of Oatman.

In 1907, it was the property of the Mohave Gold Mining Company and had been producing moderately since about 1900. It has long been idle.

The vein, which is the foot wall member of a wide lode, strikes N. 150 W., dips 300 to 400 W., and occurs in Oatman andesite and probably also in Alcyone trachyte. The filling consists of quartz, calcite, and fluorite. Near the foot wall, the quartz is dark and chalcedonic. It was stoped from near the surface to a depth of approximately 50 feet by a length of 120 feet and a width of 3% feet. This ore is stated to have averaged about $18 per ton in gold, but material from a depth of about 50 feet ran only $7.
