Comments
Comment (Location): TURN EAST ON GRADED ROAD 1.25 MILES S. OF MOUNTAIN CITY, GO 2.5 MILES TO PROSPECT. TRENCHES ARE ALONG BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD JUST NORTH OF QUARTZITE HILL.
Comment (Deposit): RHYOLITIC AIRE-FALL TUFF & BENTONITE LAYER WITH UP TO U.25% & U308 AT CONTACT ZONE, IN FORM OF AUTUNITE
Comment (Workings): 2 BULLDOZER CUTS, 30 DEGREE INCLINED SHAFT, TRENCHES
Comment (Geology): RADIOACTIVITY IS PRESENT ALONG 400 FEET OF A EXPOSED CONTACT BETWEEN CRETACEOUS QUARTZ MONZONITE AND THE BASAL ZONE OF A RHYOLITIC AIR-FALL TUFF BELOW A BLACK, VITROPHYRIC, ANDESITIC WELDED TUFF CALLED THE PYROXENE ANDESITE OF RUSSELL GULCH. AUTONITE IS CONCENTRATED IN A 2-3 INCH THICK BENTONITIC ZONE JUST ABOVE A THIN CHARCOAL LAYER. URANIUM MINERALIZATION, (WEAKER), CONTINUES FOR A FOOT ABOVE AND BELOW THE BENTONITIC LAYER.
Comment (Deposit): DEVELOPEMENT AS OF 1973 CONSISTED OF TWO BULLDOZER CUTS AND A 30 DEGREE INCLINED SHAFT FILLED WITH WATER TO WITHIN 25 FEET OF THE SURFACE BACKGROUND RADIOACTIVITY=.03 MR/HR; HIGH=1.5 MR/HR. TRENCHES ALONG BOTH SIDES OF ROAD N. OF QUARTZITE HILL. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
