Comment (Deposit): LEAD-SILVER ORES WERE DISCOVERED IN 1869 AT THE LATHAM MINE. AFTER A MINING DISTRICT CONSOLIDATION IN 1871, THE INGOT MINING CO. ACQUIRED THE LATHAM AND OTHER MINES ALSO BUILDING A SMELTER AT SPRUCE MONT TO TREAT THE LEAD CARBONATE ORES. THIS FURNACE OPERATED FOR ABOUT A YEAR WITH VARIED RESULTS UNTIL IT SHUTDOWN. THE OLD MINE WORKINGS CONSISTED OF ADITS & SHAFTS, ONE BEING 108 FT IN 1872. BEFORE 1916 THE KILLIE SHAFT WAS SUNK BY THE SPRUCE MOUNTAIN COPPER CO., EAST OF THE OLD WORKINGS AND AT A LOWER ELEVATION. IT WAS 220 FT, WITH A 1450 FT DRIFT CUTTING LIMESTONES AND THE GRANITE PORPHYRY. IN 1926 THE PROPERTY WAS REOPENED BY THE SPRUCE CONSOLIDATED MINES COMPANY AFTER BEING IDLE FOR 9 YEARS. IN LATE 1926 THE NEVADA LEAD AND ZINC MINING COMPANY BECAME THE OWNER-OPERATOR. THE SHAFT WAS RECONDITIONED AND WORK WAS CARRIED ON ON 6 LEVELS-TOTAL WORKINGS SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET. MOST ORK WAS CONDUCTED ABOVE THE 70 AND 120 FT LEVELS. THE GLORY HOLE PIT ALSO, LATHAM TUNNEL. IN 1930, WITHE
