Mine Description
“About a mile southeast of Turkey Creek station is the Silver Cord vein(68), said to be traceable through six claims. It dips south or southeast at an angle of less than 20°. This vein contains both silver and gold, together with some pyrite, galena, and chalcopyrite. The deposit was operated for several years, and twenty or thirty carloads of shipping ore is said to have been produced. In 1912, it is reported, 224 tons was shipped containing $40.67 a ton in gold, silver, copper, and lead. Among the properties on the Silver Cord vein is the American Flag, or the Old Brooks mine. Mr. Cleator, of Turkey Creek station, states that he shipped about twelve carloads from this property. The first-class ore contained $75 to the ton; the second-class ore $18 or more.”
The U. S. Mineral Resources state that a small production of ore containing silver, lead, gold, and copper was made by the Silver Cord mine in 1925, 1928, 1929, and 1930.
