Comments
Comment (Workings): MINE DEVELOPED BY A DEEP TWO-COMPARTMENT SHAFT NEAR FROST CREEK, AN OPEN CUT, AND SEVERAL TUNNELS TO THE WEST CALLED THE WEST ALGONQUIN MINE. FROM ABOUT 1929 TO 1960 THE TROUT AND ALGONQUIN WERE OPERATED TOGETHER. PRODUCTION FROM THE ALGONQUIN VEIN IS INCLUDED IN THE PRODUCTION CREDITED TO THE TROUT MINE. SILVER MILL ON PROPERTY 1881-2. MN ORE MINED THROUGH A PIT 30-50 FT WIDE, 150 FT LONG AND AT LEAST 60 FT IN PITCH LENGTH.
Comment (Geology): HASMARK IS MOST FAVORABLE HOST FOR MANGANESE DEPOSITS. TABULAR MANGANESE BODIES MINED FROM SILVER HILL FM. BY WEST ALGONQUIN ARE AS MUCH AS 50 M ALONG STRIKE AND 15 M THICK.
Comment (Location): 0.6 KM N OF FRANKLIN HILL.
Comment (Production): ALGONQUIN OPERATED BY TROUT MINING CO. TOGETHER WITH TROUT MINE FROM ABOUT 1950-1960, PRODUCTION FOR THOSE YEARS INCLUDED WITH TROUT. OPERATED BY TAYLOR KNAPP CO. AS RECENTLY AS 1966 BUT PRODUCTION NOT AVAILABLE.AG PRODUCTION (EMMONS). WORKED FROM 1878-1882 FOR SILVER. IN 1916 MANGANESE MINING STARTED.
Comment (Deposit): THE LODE CONSISTS OF A NARROW WELL-DEFINED QUARTZ VEIN AND SEVERAL LARGE BODIES OF MANGANESE ORE THAT ARE ATTACHED TO IT. THE QUARTZ VEIN IS TABULAR BODY THAT STRIKES ABOUT S 85 W, DIPS 75-80 S. THE MN BODIES ARE IRREGULAR BUT GENERALLY CYLINDERS, PIPES OR PODS.
