Comments

Comment (Location): Political location in record is Beaverhead county. However, original lat/long plots in Silver Bow county, at the Butte Airport. Original coordinates were: lat/long NAD27 45-57-44N 112-29-37W (45.9622 -112.4936); UTM N5090716 E384264 Z12N; PLSS line# 1: Meridian- Montana Principal, TWNSHP 010 S, RNG 007 W, Sect 17, Sect_fract . The mining at Butte is on the north side of town, opposite the airport. Also, the PLSS coordinates translate to the same longitude, but one degree south. The reporter likely mistyped the latitude, so it was decreased by one degree to 44.9622. Also, GEONAMES finds Jake Canyon Creek very close to this location. The new point falls on an unnamed southern tributary of Jake Canyon Creek, about 500m south of the Silver Queen Mine symbol on the USGS topo sheet.
