Comment (Development): Originally Called The Silver Queen, 1875-1909. Magma Copper Company Began Operating 1910 Minor Production Until 1911, When Owned By Lake Superior And Arizona Mining Company

Comment (Geology): The Magma Mine at Superior: Mineralization Associated With Diorite Porphyry Intrusive Period, Although Little Intrusive Rock Is Present Here. Major Intrusive Is 2 Miles N. At Silver King, Faults Are Premineralization, And Faults Continued To Move During The Short Period Between Porphyry Intrusion And Mineral Deposition. Ore Deposition Was Mesothermal, And Mineralogy And Occurrence Of Ore Is Similar To Deposits Of Butte, Montana. The Magma Is Not Similar To Nearby Porphyry Copper Deposits As There Is Little Disseminated Ore In Porphyry Host Rock, But The Age Of Mineralization Is The Same As Nearby Deposits Such As The Globe And Miami, Approximately 60 M.Y.

Comment (Workings): 8 Shafts. Deepest Mine In The State. 36 Levels, With Levels Every 100 Ft In Upper 2000 Ft Every 200 Ft Down To 4800 Ft. Workings Diminish In Thickness To The East, And Are Mainly Between The 3000 Ft And 4000 Ft Levels. Length Of Workings Estimated

Comment (Deposit): The Magma Mine at Superior: Vein Occurs Within A Strike Fault Zone That Has Brecciated The Wall Rocks Contact And The Lower Beds Of The Limestone. Most Productive Gold Horizon Along The Faults Is Within The Limestone, 10-20 Feet Above The Limestone-Quartzite Contact. All Mined Ore Has Been Oxidized

Comment (Development): Claims Include Golden Eagle And 5 Adjacent Claims; Worked In 1880'S By Gem Mining Co. As The Golden Eagle Mine; Other Owners/Operators: Lake Superior And Arizona Mining And Smelting Co., Superior Arizona Mining Co., Sam Herron And Con Laster

Comment (Geology): Although There Are No Surface Intrusives, Mineralization Is Associated With Cret-Paleo Intrusive And Faulting Episodes

Comment (Workings): Workings Include Vivian Shaft (279 Ft Deep), Anderson Tunnel (200 Ft), Carlton Tunnel (2000 Ft), Holt Tunnel And Inclined Shaft (1800 Ft Deep); The Anderson Tunnelis Located About 100 Ft North Of The Carlton, Upslope; The Holt Tunnel Is About 1200 Ft North Of The Anderson At About The Same Elevation; The Holt, Anderson, And Carlton Interconnect Underground.
