MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Location): NOTE: ACCORDING TO HUNTTING (1943, P. 41), THIS PROSPECT IS NE OF THE QUIEN SABE PROSPECT, ON THE RIDGE WEST OF DOUBTFUL LAKE. HOWEVER, DOUBTFUL LAKE IS IN THE E/2 SEC. 36, T. 35 N., R. 13 E. (UNSURVEYED). THIS NARRATIVE PRESENTS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE QUIEN SABE PROSPECT (HUNTTING, 1943, P. 42) IS REPORTED IN "SEC. 31, T. 35 N., R. 15 E., IN DOUBTFUL LAKE BASIN." ASSUMING THE QUIEN SABE PROSPECT IS IN SEC. 31, T. 35 N., R. 14 E., THE MARLIN PROPSECT CANNOT BE BOTH NORTHEAST OF THE QUIEN SABE PROSPECT AND ON THE RIDGE WEST OF DOUBTFUL LAKE (SEE CASCADE PASS 7.5-MIN. TOPO MAP). IN ADDITION TO THIS MESS, HUNTTING (1956, P. 46) REPORTS THIS PROSPECT AS NEAR THE NE CORNER OF SEC. 36, T. 35 N., R. 14 E., WHICH IS EITHER A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR OR A SCIENTIFIC WILD ASS GUESS. WAIT!! A METSKER MAP IN THE BLACK WARRIOR MINE (0530070290) FILE HAS UNLOCKED THE MYSTERY. THE MARLIN PROSPECT IS SHOWN NORTHWEST OF DOUBTFUL LAKE IN THE SE/4 NE/4 NE/4 SEC. 36, T. 35 N., R. 13 E., AND THE NW/4 NW/4 NW/4 SEC. 31, T. 35 N., R. 14 E., BOTH UNSUR- VEYED TOWNSHIPS., WHICH ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE. THE LOCATION OF THIS RECORD IS PLOTTED ON THE IMAGINARY LINE BETWEEN R. 13 AND 14 E.
