Comments
Comment (Location): A 400-acre site south of Fountain Creek and US Highway 24, and east of 21st Street, on the west side of Colorado Springs, in E/2 sec.14, T 14 S, R 67 W.
Comment (Production): A gold mill processed ore from the Cripple Creek District from 1906 to 1949.
Comment (Reserve-Resource): Efforts to recover 362,000 oz. of gold from 12-14 million tons of tailings were reported; results from sampling and assays showed 0.04 oz/ton gold and 0.167 oz/ton silver. (US BuMines Minerals Yearbook, 1974-75). Later results showed 14.5 million tons at 0.04 oz/ton gold and >0.04 oz/ton silver. (US BuMines Minerals Yearbook, 1988, 1991).
Comment (Development): Recent (2006) efforts to develop the site are reported. Plans to remediate and build a residential/mixed-use development on 210 acres are announced; apparently, no further plans to recover gold or other metals are planned.
