Comments

Comment (Location): LOCATION IS ACCURATE FOR THE APACHE MINE SHAFT. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1979

Comment (Production): JAHNS (1946, P. 165) REPORTS TOTAL PRODUCTION OF SCRAP MICA TO 1946 AS OVER 4,000 TONS, (8,000,000 LBS).

Comment (Deposit): THERE ARE SEVERAL DIKES IN THE AREA. THERE IS NO DEFINITE STRIKE DIRECTION GIVEN FOR THE MAIN DIKE, ALTHOUGH JAHNS (1946, P. 166) SAYS THE DIKE CAN BE TRACED DIAGONALLY ALONG THE NORTH WALL OF THE CANYON FROM A POINT NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE CANYON TO A POINT ON A STEEP RIDGE 150 FT HIGHER AND 450 FT TO THE EAST. THERE IS A REMNANT OF WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE SOUTH LIMB OF AN INVERTED TROUGH LOCATED IN THE CANYON BOTTOM.

Comment (Workings): WORKINGS CONSIST OF SEVERAL OPEN CUTS, STOPES, DRIFTS, THREE ADITS, ONE SHAFT AND AN INCLINED WINZE. JAHNS (1946, P. 166-167) GIVES A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION AND MAPS OF THE WORKINGS.

Comment (Geology): THE DEPOSIT OCCURS IN THE PETACA SCHIST MEMBER OF THE ORTEGA QUARTZITE.

Comment (Deposit): THE APACHE MINE HAS THE LARGEST PRODUCTION RECORD OF ANY MINE IN THE PETACA DISTRICT. SEE ALSO: LA JARITA-APACHE GROUP. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: 1840'S
