Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Ownership): Comment from Dave Pit (0560070150=10181680): PETROMICS INC (TIDEWATER OIL) [ABWilson notes the probable misspelling of Petrotomics] The only reference was "WYO.G.S.FOR MAS"

Comment (Reference): Bibliographic references for deelted record Dave Section 10 Pit (0560070078=10302976): Deposit 1 MESA METAL-NONMETAL MINE FILE REF Deposit 2 OWNER-OP GETTY OIL COMPANY KGS JOINT VENTURE Deposit 3 USBM PROD TABS (WASH) Deposit 4 EMJ INT DIRECTORY OF MINING 1974- EMPL 54 WASTE 90000 Deposit 5 "WYOMING MINERS SET SIGHTS..." EMJ DEC 75 PAGES 61-85 (GOOD) Note that owner listed as KGS Joint Venture. Could it be TGS, or is TGS really supposed to be KGS?

Comment (Reference): The only reference was "WYO.G.S.FOR MAS" for both deleted records, Dave Pit and Dave and T G S.

Comment (Workings): CONVENTIONAL MINING TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED. NOMINAL CAPACITY - 1,500 TONS / DAY. URANIUM GOES TO UTILITIES IN WISCONSIN, NEW ENGLAND AND ALABAMA.

Comment (General): Combined records for Dave Pit, Dave Section 10 Pit and Dave and T G S into this record and deleted them as duplicates. This is all part of the same deposit.

Comment (Deposit): BELIEVED TO BE ON THE UP- DIP SIDE OF THE SAME SANDSTONE MINED BY THE UTAH C AND M COMPANY.

Comment (Location): Dave pit in NE sec. 9 near the 500 tpd mill. Another pit in NE of sec. 15. See pl. 7, #3 and #4 on p. 22 of MINOBRAS, 1976. Poor locations for the orebody given in the 3 deleted records: Dave Pit 42-18-42, -106-10-22 Dave Section 10 Pit 42-19-16, -106-11-0 Dave and T G S 42-19-13, -106-10-14

Comment (Development): In July 1960 the Ptrotomics Co. began to strip 3 million yards of overburden in preparation for mining large high-grde uranium ore boides on their property in secs. 4 and 9, T27N, R78W. The first ore was mined form this property in December 1960. [...] In October 1966, Petrotomics Co. started a new open pit in Sec. 15, T27N, R78W. The first ore from this pit was mined in Septermber 1967 from high-grade ore bodies about 180 below the ground surface. (Harshman, 1972, p. 6-7)

Comment (General): deleted record 0560070187 was "REVISED BY MILS 9-79". That was the only reference given.

Comment (Location): Location of pits in secs. 9 and later in sec. 15 confirmed by Harshman (1972, PP-745, p. 4, 6-7)

Comment (Location): BETWEEN THE MEDICINE BOW MOUNTAINS AND THE LARAMIE MOUNTAINS IN THE CENTER OF SHIRLEY BASIN. SOUTH OF SHIRLEY BASIN MINE ON THE LINE BETWEEN TOWNSHIPS.; PREVIOUS QUAD DESIGNATION = CASPER 1:250000; 1:24000 QUADRANGLE IS A 1959 EDITION

Comment (Production): LAST HALF OF 1978 MILL OPERATED AT 1,300 TONS / DAY. 1979 MILL OPERATED AT 1,500 TONS / DAY.

Comment (Development): 1962 PLACED A 500 TON / DAY MILL INTO OPERATION. 1969 WENT TO 1 500 TONS / DAY. SHUT DOWN 1973 - 74 DUE TO UNFAVORABLE URANIUM MARKET.
