Red Rock

The Red Rock is a fluorine-fluorite mine located in Gila county, Arizona at an elevation of 5,400 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): THE DEPOSIT WAS EVALUATED FOR FLUORSPAR ONLY. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER, SOME GOLD AND SILVER VALUES HAVE BEEN FOUND, BUT NO ASSAYS OR RESERVE FIGURES WERE MADE AVAILABLE. ORE FROM THE QUARTZ LEDGE DEPOSIT, THE RED ROCK MINE, AND THE BLUEBIRD MINE WAS MILLED IN 1971-73 AT THE COMPANY FLOTATION MILL LOCATED 3.2 KM EAST OF TONTO BASIN. THERE IS ONE VEIN- STRIKE N70W, DIP VERTICAL, LATERAL EXTENT UNKNOWN, WIDTH 0.3- 1.5M.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): MAT1 COL1- TONNAGE ESTIMATED BY RUDD, A CONSULTANT HIRED BY TONTO MINING AND MILLING IN 1976 (HAMILTON, 1982). GRADE OF 50% BASED ON AVERAGE GRADE OF ORE WHEN THE MINE WAS OPERATING.

Comment (Geology): DISTRICT ALSO UNDERLAIN BY PRECAMBRIAN GRANITE, WITH YOUNGER PRECAMBRIAN APACHE GROUP OVERLAYING IT, CREATCEOUS GRANITE INTRUDES OLDER ROCKS.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): NO R-DATA SET IS LISTED BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PUBLISHED RESERVES FOR THIS DEPOSIT, Q-MAT1 COL1 IS THE RESERVE FIGURE USED FOR THIS EVALUATION- 72600MT AT 50% CAF2.

Comment (Workings): A 1KM SECTION OF ROAD WILL NEED TO BE BUILT TO CONNECT THE ADITS WITH THE MAIN ROAD. THE EXISTING ROAD BETWEEN THE MINE AND MILL (15KM) AND MILL TO TONTO BASIN (4KM) WILL NEED TO BE IMPROVED- PROBABLY WIDENED AND GRAVELLED.

Comment (Economic Factors): ACQUISITION COST OF $1,000,000 WAS PAID BY PRO-MET IN NOV 1980 FOR THE RED ROCK, QUARTZ LEDGE, BLUEBIRD, AND THE MILL. THE ACTUAL COST OF CONSTRUCTING THE MILL IN 1971 WAS $600,000.

Comment (Production): SURFACE GEOLOGIC MAPPING HAS BEEN DONE FOR GILA COUNTY (ARIZ BUMINES 1959). ONE STOPE WAS MINED 1971-73, BUT RECORDS WERE LOST IN AN OFFICE FIRE. OTHER METHOD INCLUDES SOME SAMPLING BY THE CURRENT OWNER, NO ASSAYS WERE MADE AVAIL- ABLE FOR THIS EVALUATION.
