This district is in the Inyo Range in northern Ioyo County about 10 miles northeast of Independence. A number of narrow quartz veins in Peleozoic metasediments and granitic rocks bear free gold and often abundant sulfides. Placer deposits, including those of Mazourka Canyon, were worked by dry placer methods from 1894 until 1906. The area was prospected again in the 1930s.
