This photo is titled "1st smelter at Silverton, San Juan county." This could be either the E.C. Holmes & Co.'s smelter or the Greene Smelter. Although the Greene smelter is considered to be the first smelter at Silverton, newspaper articles indicate that the Holmes smelter began operations a few months earlier in September of 1874.
