Jelly or Jelly Ferry is on the upper Sacramento River about 10 miles north of Red Bluff in Tehama County. At one time Andrew Jelly operated a ferry across the river. Later the state operated the ferry; it was finally replaced by a bridge in 1950. During the early days, Chinese mined gold-bearing gravels in the area by ground sluicing, which was followed by an unsuccessful early dredge. There was some dragline dredging here in the 1930s. The gold occurs in both the river gravels and terraces adjacent to the river.
