Comment (Deposit): HEDLUND AND OLSON (1975) DESCRIBE OLIGOCENE CALCITE VEINS AS VEINS WITH FRACTURE FILLINGS AND REPLACEMENT VEINS OF MN OXIDES. VEINS TREND N 45 TO 80 W, 3 TO 12 FT THICK, TRACEABLE FOR ABOUT 600 FT. LOCALLY THEY CONTAIN ABUNDANT FRAGMENTS OF MESOZOIC QUARTZITE AND SILSTONE AND SPARSE TERTIARY VOLCANICS. DROBECK (1979) DESCRIBES DEPOSIT AS TH-RAE PROSPECT OCCURRING AS THIN, VERTICAL, LATERALLY EXTENSIVE, STRATABOUND BRECCIATED CALCITE VEIN CONTAINING PYROLUSITE, ALL CONTAINED IN SEQUENCE OF METAMORPHOSED GREYWACKE SILTSTONES (HEDLUND AND OLSON'S QUARTZOFELDSPATHIC AND QUARTZ-SERICITE SCHIST). DROBECK FOUND NO ASSOCIATED SULFIDES. SAMPLES SHOWED BRECCIATION SEQUENCE: (1) FIRST BRECCIATION OF DUBOIS RIX OF WHITE CALCITE; (3) THIRD BRECCIATION IN MATRIX OF BLACK PYROLUSITE. ON DROBECK'S MAP (PL. 2) MINE LIES ON SOUTHERN OF TWO SUBPARALLEL CALCITE VEINS TRENDING GENERALLY N 70 W.
