Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: MANGANIFEROUS IRON ORE OUTCROPS IN 3 PLACES AND IS SURROUNDED BY BASALT. ORE IS MAINLY A MIXTURE OF IRON AND MANGANESE OXIDES PERMEATED THROUGHOUT BY OPALINE SILICA. SOME BANDS AND STREAKS OF RED CHERT ARE INCLUDED. CHERT IS HEAVILY STAINED BY BLACK MANGANESE OXIDE. SOME ORE CONTAINS INTERCALATIONS OF YELLOW CHERT. FRANCISCAN SERPENTINE IS FOUND IN THE SURROUNDING REGION.

Comment (Deposit): AN ASSAY OF A SAMPLE OF THE MATERIAL IN ONE OF THE ORE ZONES GAVE THE FOLLOWING RESULT: MANGANESE, 2.25%; FERRIC OXIDE, 18.81%; AND SILICA, 66.4%. ANOTHER SAMPLE ASSAYED AS FOLLOWS:MANGANESE, 6.3%; FERRIC OXIDE, 62.22%; AND SILICA, 26.77%.
