Arcturus Mine

The Arcturus Mine is a tungsten mine located in Pershing county, Nevada at an elevation of 4,390 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Commodity): 2926 WAS COLLECTED FROM THE CONTACT ZONE AND THE DUMP. THE SAMPLE LAMPED WELL WITH GOOD HIGH GRADE TUNGSTEN AND SOME POWELLITE. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS MINE WOULD BE IN DEVELOPING SUFFICIENT ORE RESERVES FOR ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE HIGH IN GRADE, THE TACTITE ZONE IS VERY NARROW.

Comment (Location): ACCESSIBLE BY GOOD ROAD TO WITHIN 0.3 MILE, THEN STEEP. ON STEEP N SIDE OF SELENITE RANGE. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1972)

Comment (Development): APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN WORKED IN ABOUT THE 1950'S. NO ACTIVITY AT TIME OF EXAMINATION IN 1985.

Comment (Deposit): NARROW BAND OF METASEDIMENTS IN CONTACT WITH GRANODIORITE. METASEDIMENTS HAVE SURVIVED EROSION IN PART BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN SILICIFIED, FORMING A THIN SELVAGE OF TACTITE. SCHEELITE-BEARING TACTITE IS EXPOSED AT THE SURFACE IN A LENS 50 FT LONG, 4-5 FT WIDE. THE ORE IS COARSE-GRAINED AND CONSISTS OF GARNET, EPIDOTE, QUARTZ, AND SCHEELITE, WITH AN AVERAGE CONTENT OF 1.0 % WO3. SURROUNDING THE ORE AND CONTINUING ALONG STRIKE FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET IS BARREN TACTITE COMPOSED OF GARNET, HEDENBERGITE, QUARTZ, AND CALCITE. THE TACTITE IS INTERBEDDED WITH CALC-SILICATE HORNFELS, BIOTITE SCHIST, AND METAMORPHOSED VOLCANIC ROCKS, ALL OF WHICH DIP GENTLY SOUTHEAST INTO A LARGE GRANITE MASS THAT CONSTITUTES MOST OF THE RANGE. THE CONTACT BETWEEN GRANITE AND METAMORPHIC ROCKS IS STEEP, AND THE ORE-BEARING TACTITE IS PROBABLY CUT OFF BY GRANITE ABOUT 200 FT DOWN DIP. AT NE END OF PROPERTY, TACTITE OCCURS IN A BODY 200 FT LONG, 20 FT WIDE, OF GARNET, DIOPSIDE, AND SCHEELITE. HIGHEST

Comment (Deposit): GRADE PARTS ARE 2-3 FT WIDE, CONTAINING 0.2-0.4 % WO3.

Comment (Workings): CROSSCUT ADIT 440 FT LONG THAT IS 200 FT BELOW THE ORE BODY AND DOES NOT INTERSECT IT; DOZER CUT.
