Comment (Identification): This record covers an area which encompasses the historic Grantsville Mine described by MRDS record # M231843 from which all pertinent material has been incorporated into the current record.

Comment (Location): The Grantsville Mine workings are in Grantsville Canyon which is located about two miles south of Berlin on the west sde of the Shoshone Mountain Range.

Comment (Workings): Historic workings consist of five adits connected by a vertical shaft with three levels and an inclined shaft. More recent surface exploration activity.

Comment (Commodity): Gangue Materials: fluorite

Comment (Deposit): Ore occurs along contacts, bedding planes and fractures within shattered limestone unit.

Comment (Development): The property was first called the Great Eastern Mine. In 1877 the claims were relocated by P. Lefler and sold to Manuel San Pedro and others, who patented the claims and formed the Alexander Co. A mill was built and began operating in 1878 (40 stamps by 1880). It was sold in 1881 and changed hands many times thereafter. It was owned in 1951 by E.H. Berryman and B. Cisilini of Gabbs and Ione; and owned in 1970 by Hogan Mines, Ltd. of Vancouver. Fury Exploration of Nevada, Ltd. held the property in 1989.

Comment (Economic Factors): In 1987, drill-proven reserves of 531,757 tons of ore grading 4.39 ounces per ton silver were reported, plus another drill-indicated 345,095 tons of material grading 4.30 ounces per ton silver. Production in 1988 was 98,000 ounces of silver and 38 ounces of gold from 130 kilotonnes of ore.
