Exchequer History

Exchequer, also known as Exchequerville, was one of the towns vying to be the center of the Bonanza district. It was located near the Exchequer, one of the districts top mines. The town had a post office from 1881 to 1883.

Ultimately the town of Bonanza became the center of the district and Exchequer died out within a few years. The Exchequer town site was the location of miner's cabins for decades, one of which still survives. A graveyard is located on the hill above town.
