Comments

Comment (Development): ECON.COM: IRON IS TOO LOW-GRADE AS A SOURCE FOR COMMERCIAL PIG IRON.

Comment (Geology): LENSES OF HEMATITE ARE SUCCEEDED BY A ZONE OF SILICEOUS PORPHYRY BRECCIA.

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: 1890'S

Comment (Deposit): THE GEOLOGY OF THE IRON MOUNTAIN DISTRICT CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF ANCIENT SEDIMENTARY ROCKS VERY EXTENSIVELY INTRUDED AND REPLACED WITH ERUPTIVE GRANITE, SCHISTOSE GREENSTONE, DIORITE, AND BASALT DIKES. THE GREENSTONE IS LIGHT TO DARK GRAY - GREEN, DENSE AND MASSIVE. THE MARBLE IS WHITE TO LIGHT GRAY, COARSELY CRYSTALLINE AND MASSIVE. IT IS INTERBEDDED WITH GREENSTONES. IN THE AREA AROUND THE GRANITIC ROCKS THE MARBLE IS REPLACED BY TACTITE, CONTAINING BROWN GARNET.
