Comment (Geology): STRIKE ABOUT N60E AND DIP 30SE. MINOR DISCREPANCIES IN MAJOR STRUCUTURE ARE NOT UNCOMMON, BUT ARE MOST COMMON NEAR MEDASED-DIORITE CONTACT. THINLY LAMINATED BEDS ARE SLIGHTLY CRENULATED AND THERE WAS DEVELOPMENT OF NUMEROUS SMALL DRAG FOLDS ON NORTHWEST LIMB NEAR NOSE OF A MAJOR NORTHEAST PITCHING ANTICLINE. THERE ARE AT LEAST 10 GARNETIFEROUS BEDS EXPOSED FOR 3000 BY 1000 FT; 1-9 FT THICK AND AVG ABOUT 3 FT. SOUTH OF CABIN A 4 FT THICK GARNET BED COVERS ABOUT 800 SQ YDS, ON SURFACE. A 2-4 FT GARNET BED IS EXPOSED FOR 100 FT, 300 FT S20E OF CABIN. A 3-9 FT GARNET BED 340 FT S20E OF CABIN IS EXPOSED FOR 850 FT. SEVERAL SMALLER GARNET BEDS ARE EXPOSED IN GENERAL AREA. ABOUT 2000 FT EAST OF CABIN ARE SEVERAL SMALL EXPOSURES OF 1-5 FT GARNET BEDS. ABOUT 3000 FT N60E OF ABIN ARE SEVERAL 2-3 FT GARNET BEDS EXPOSED OVER 280 SQ YDS. GARNET BEDS PROBABLY RESULTED FROM ALTERATION AND REPLACEMENT OF LIME BEDS BY SOLUTIONS AND GASES GIVEN OFF DURING INTRUSION OF DIORITE. MOLYBDENITE

Comment (Workings): 12 FT SHAFT ON TOP OF RIDGE 420 FT S20E FROM CABIN; ADIT AT NORTHEAST CORNER OF CABIN DRIVEN SOUTHEAST FOR 85 FT; ANOTHER ADIT 50 FT NORTHEAST OF 1ST ADIT DRIVEN SE FOR 35 FT (CAVED IN 1945); OPEN CUTS.

Comment (Geology): AND CHALCOPYRITE DO NOT CONSTITUTE ORE EXCEPT FOR SMALL AREAS SEVERAL FT IN DIAMETER THAT WOULD MAKE GOOD MO ORE. MUCH OF MAGNETITE OCCURS AS BLADED CRYSTALS, TO 1 IN. ACROSS, SHOWING WELL-DEVELOPED PARTING. COMMONLY, MAGNETITE CRYSTALS FORM RADIAL PATTERN. SCHEELITE IS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT GARNET ROCKS, AND THERE IS CONSIDERABLE VARIATION IN SCHEELITE CONTENT. SCHEELITE CRYSTALS RANGE FROM MINUTE SPECKS TO 0.25 IN. ACROSS. CONSIDERABLE POWELLITE, FROM OXIDATION OF MOLYBDENITE AND SCHEELITE, HAS FORMED IN GARNET BEDS.

Comment (Geology): TOP OF RIDGE AND UPPER PART OF NORTHWEST SLOPE IS THIN-BEDDED MICA SCHISTS, ARGILLITES, LIMESTONES, AND QUARTZITES. NORTHWEST OF RIDGE IS LARGE INTRUSIVE DIORITE (HORNBLENDE-BIOTITE GRANODIORITE TO QUARTZ MONZONITE AND HORNBLENDE DIORITE. DIORITE-METASEDIMENTARY CONTACT NOT EXPOSED, BUT APPROXIMATE CONTACT CAN BE TRACED FOR ABOUT 1500 FT AT NORTH END OF RIDGE. AT SOUTHERN END OF RIDGE, NEAR CABIN, NEAREST EXPOSURE OF DIORITE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED FT TO WEST. NARROW APLITE AND PEGMATITE DIKES, PROBABLY RELATED TO DIORITE, WERE INJECTED INTO AND BETWEEN METASEDIMENTARY BEDS TO PRODUCE A LIT-PAR-LIT EFFECT LOCALLY. GENERALLY, METASEDIMENTARY BEDS APPEAR TO LIE NEAR NOSE ON NORTHWEST LIMB OF AN ANTICLINE PITCHING NORTHEAST. FOR ABOUT 300 FT SOUTH OF CABIN BEDS STRIKE ABOUT N85E AND DIP 15-35NW, WITH DIPS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASING FROM SE TO NW. ON TOP OF RIDGE SOUTH OF CABIN BEDS STRIKE ABOUT N50W AND DIP 15-2ONE WHICH CONTINUES ALONG RIDGE TOP TO ITS NE END. ABOUT 3000 FT N60E OF CABIN BEDS
