Comments

Comment (Production): Reported production by 1905 was valued at $225,000. The mine was producing in 1983: 1,450 tons per day grading 0.04 oz/ton Au from an open-pit, vat-leach operation. (Sunshine files) In the early 1990s, mining and heap leaching resumed.

Comment (Location): On the west side of Ironclad Hill, about 1-1/2 miles ESE of Cripple Creek, in the SE/4 SE/4 sec 18, T 15 S, R 69 W.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): A 1983 report says 2.46 million tons of material grading 0.037oz/ton of gold. (Sunshine files) Subsequently, these reserves have been mined.

Comment (Development): The old Ironclad mine was developed by a shaft 690 ft. deep and produced a small amount of gold by 1905. Silver State Mining Corp. re-opened the mine as an open pit in March 1982, and sold a 60% interest in the mine to NERCO Minerals Co. in 1984. Following additional changes in ownership and operations, the mine became part of the Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining Co. holdings.

Comment (Geology): An oxidized breccia pipe contains low-grade gold resources. The breccia pipe material that contains the bulk of the low-grade ore is "fluidized". Breccia is commonly stratified and well-sorted.
